The number of older people with driving licences has exceeded the four million mark for the first time, reveals a report by the RAC Foundation. Data shows that there are a record 4,018,900 men and women aged 70 or over who hold a valid full British licence, with the motoring research charity predicting that number is set to rise even further. Vauxhall/Opel has scooped the European Car of the Year gong – by a single point. The results, announced today, were another surprise in the 44-year history of CoTY, as the Insignia pipped the Ford Fiesta and pushed the VW Golf into third place. The full results for Car of the Year 2009 are:
• 1st Vauxhall Insignia, 321 points• 2nd Ford Fiesta, 320 points• 3rd VW Golf, 223 points• 4th Citroen C5, 198 points• 5th Alfa Romeo Mito, 148 points• 6th Skoda Superb, 144 points• 7th Renault Megane, 121 points
The win is a lift for GM, which is struggling with cashflow problems in Detroit.
The German F1 Grand Prix 2010 at Hockenheim
It held so much promise, the 2010 German Grand Prix. The Ferrari recovery seems to be underway and capable of fighting with the Red Bulls. McLaren were a bit off the pace, but then they have all year yet still lead both the constructors and drivers due to a combination of reliability, skill and tactics.
